Students at Notre Dame develop an appreciation for music, art, and physical activity through our specials classes. These opportunities nurture the God-given gifts and talents of each student, allowing them to explore the world through creativity, movement, language, and innovation. Students are encouraged to discover new interests, express themselves, and grow in confidence.

Physical Education at Notre Dame helps students build fitness, teamwork, and confidence.
Attention is given to the development of motor skills as well as social skills like sportsmanship and cooperation.
Students have the opportunity to participate in a vareity of games and activities that encourage a lifetime of physical activity and healthy habits.
The ultimate goal for each student is to learn how to care for the body that God has given them, ensuring they can move through each day with strength and energy.

Music & Band
Students gain knowledge in technique, movement, rhythm, and different music styles.
A focus is placed on hymns and songs that prepare students to serve music liturgies at school Mass.
Musical performances throughout the year allow students to showcase their growth.
Fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate in band (including on-site lessons) in partnership with the Howard-Winneshiek Community School District.

Art
Students in all grades explore a variety or art mediums, styles, and techniques during weekly art enrichment sessions.
Art activities are also integrated throughout the curriculum.

Our library program provides engaging literacy lessons that develop and foster independent reading for all skill levels.
Students learn library and research skills while exploring different genres and media types.
Weekly library sessions offer the opportunity for students to check out books.

Technology
Technology instruction is integrated into many subjects with weekly computer science instruction.
Students practice appropriate use of digital tools and resources to investigate, research, present, and communicate.
Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to join Robotics Club, an after-school program that meets twice a month that allows students to explore LEGO EV3 and Spike Essential kits, 3D pens, OSMO, BeeBots, and Cubelets!
